Day 39-Garden City to Dodge City KS

Today was so great. Wake up wasn't until 6:15 and we were in hotel beds so we had a great nights rest before our ride. However we did wake up to see that it was still raining from the strom that night but luckily, while we ate breakfast it stopped raining but the clouds stuck around to keep us cool the whole ride. Since our wake up was later we actually got a real breakfast, hot continental breakfast from the hotel was such a treat, eggs, sausage, muffins, cereal and one of the lovely employees Karen was cooking us all blueberry waffles that were so amazing, so thankful for that. Today I hit the road with Hayden and Randy, we all felt really good and ended up absolutely crushing it on the ride. We were moving at 22-24 mph the whole ride, up and over some rolling hills and held a 22 mph avg until we hit the streets coming into Dodge City. Still more boring landscape but cruising that fast with the guys and hanging out and talking was so fun. We also passed a wind turbine manufacturer plant and rode past hundreds of blades and turbines, it was very cool for me to see them up close, just after that we see a field full of turbines spinning away. We were shocked how easy it was for us to keep that pace, and we hardly stopped at all, once to fill water bottles and twice for red flags at the last two crew vans before lodging because we had gotten too far ahead of the rest of the pace lines. We ended up making it to lodging by 10:00 on the dot which was our pace line's goal making it 54 miles in 2.5 hours, pretty awesome. I was especially proud of Randy to see how much he has improved since the start of the trip, I rode with him day 2 and he wouldn't even take hills faster than 20 and now we are screaming down flats at 24 and up.
After everyone got to lodging we napped outside for an hour before we staged up for an arrival for Arrowhead West. We ate lunch with them followed by Bingo which I haven't played in years, turns out I was very unlucky, not even close to Bingo before about 15 others got it. I hung out with Bruce mostly and him and I and my teammate Brian talked about everything. Talked about Bruce's work where he does maintenance and cleaning, how much he loves dogs because an employee there has a dog Cammy who she brings to work all the time, we also talked about biking, Bruce has a Schwin road bike he rides sometimes, he didn't want to ride it with us the rest of the way to Washington DC though. He was a lot of fun to talk to. Before we left we sang happy birthday to one of their members Sally and they made us all Push America pins that are really cool.
After we rode back from the visit we showered and a group of us, Evan, Scott, Brandon, Sam, Dylan, Jeff and I went to a sports bar & grill to watch the USA vs Belgium game and grab dinner, the game was so intense and had a good time and spent most of tje time laughing, it was a hilarious dinner, so many jokes to handle it hurt. Swung by Dairy Queen on the way back for blizzards and to get a longer break from lodging before heading back.
Tonight we are just messing around in lodging, running at each other with yoga balls and bouncing around and, I'm also getting organized and sorting through my duffel which has turned into an explosion of things, really need to send some stuff home that I don't need. I am also going to get some extra rest tonight to prepare for the 80 miles tomorrow followed by 90 the next day then a day off for the 4th of July! Can't wait!
