Day 42-Wichita, day off

Our day off started out fantastic, got to sleep in until 8:30, even though I didn't mean to because we were meeting downstairs at 8:35 so Ryan and I who is my roomie in the dorms we are staying at woke up and ran down to make it in time. The same guy that sponsored our lunch yesterday, Van Buckanan, also sponsored our breakfast, he took us all to the Marriott which was absolutely amazing, we love getting a good hot breakfast. We also met a couple 2001 Pi Alphas there for breakfast, it was great to hear their stories and encouragement from them for what we are doing. After breakfast we had a short break before meeting the Wichita State chapter brothers for lunch at the Midian Shrine which is a branch of or related to Free Masonry. The Shrine was a really cool building, a free mason and Pi Kapp and Pi Alpha, Alex showed us around, the upstairs is covered in trophies and awards and also has a full private bar available to only Masons. We learned a little more about what Shriners do, they run 21 hospitals around the U.S. and offer medical services to children 18 and under and will pay for medical expenses that are not covered by insurance. They raise money for these hospitals with fundraisers and donations from Masons. I have had a little interactions with masons but learning about the shriner hospitals makes me even more interested in the free masons.

Once we got back from lunch we had a lot of free time so 15 of us went to a fun park nearby to go mini golfing. It was fun messing around on the course, we had it almost completely to ourselves for most of the time we were there. I ended getting second in my group of 5, didn't know I was ok at mini golf. A bunch of tje guys went out on the go carts too but I didn't think it was worth it, they were pretty slow carts.

Our dinner and the rest of the evening was spent at the Wichita State chapter advisor's block party grilling, hanging out, playing games and celebrating the 4th of July with the whole team, brothers from the Wichita chapter and some alumi and Pi Alphas. This block party is well known for how big they go with fireworks so we had a great show to watch, it was crazy, boxes of fireworks were piled up in his garage. We were guessing at least $5,000 in fire works. On our way out we noticed every neighborhood nearby had fireworks going off, driving down the highway we saw them going off on both sides the whole ride back, Kansas knows how to celebrate the right way, it was so cool.

Tomorrow we have 110 miles and supposedly not a very easy one, lots of rolling hills.
